July 25, 2012 - Seargeant Joe Stanton & Mako1548 viewsThe vest this K9 is wearing was purchased with funds donated by The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation!
From the Facebook page of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, MD (thank you to Jim Johnson, Jr):
Sergeant Joe Stanton, head of the Sheriff's Office Canine Section, and his partner Mako have been a team since he began his training when he was a puppy in 2005. This award winning canine team graduated from patrol and explosive school and have been partners since 2006. Sergeant Stanton is one of the leading Explosive Instructors and trainers here in Montgomery County as well as Statewide and has been the Canine supervisor at the Sheriff's Office since 1999.
Mako is trained in patrol as well as explosives detection. Mako and Sergeant Stanton respond regularly and assist the Montgomery County Police canine Section with calls for service to include: robberies, bomb threats, burglaries, and domestic violence calls. They were also one of the first responders during the hostage incident at the Discovery Channel building in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Sergeant Stanton oversees the training and qualifications not just for Mako but for all four of the Sheriff's Office Canine handlers and their amazing partners. Sgt Stanton displays tremendous dedication to his profession and his genuine care for all of the canine dogs and the handlers.
Sergeant Stanton was recently instrumental in the Sheriff's Office receiving 2 separate grants from Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's Foundation for K9 equipment, to include ballistic vests for all Sheriff's Office dogs. Way to go Joe!!

In memory of Grant Seward516 viewsAt age 22 my son Grant (wearing Ben's jersey) was the biggest fan that Ben and the Steelers could ever have! On Nov 2, 2011 he died.
In his short life he had converted many northern KY families from Bengals to Steelers fans. He would drive hundreds of miles to be in Heinz Field on game day and even to the Superbowl. He loved the Steelers more than anything. He had the Steelers emblem tattooed on his upper arm, banners on the house, Steelers lounge chair, Steelers jerseys, jackets, t-shirts, pants, sheets, pillows, truck emblems, steering wheel and hitch cover, and on and on. It was who he was.
His dream was for me to attend a game at Heinz Field which we had planned to do this year in December against the Bengals. My work schedule had prevented me from attending in the past even though I had wanted to very much. Last night the Steelers played the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. Me and my girls went in our Steelers gear in memory of their brother Grant.
Just wanted to thank Ben and the Steelers team for that awesome win. It was such a tribute to my son who I know was there in spirit with a big smile on his face.

January 3, 2015 - Wildcard: Ravens vs Steelers833 views“Obviously, we’re disappointed. I’ve been doing this long enough now that I think I can compartmentalize the frustration, the anger of losing, but also being able to look at the positives of the seasons. So, this is still going to sting for me for a while, but I also look at how we were 8-8 the last two years and didn’t make the playoffs to a team this year, that I think coming into the year, everyone knew that we were a young team. I think that a lot of people outside our building didn’t even think we’d get to 8-8, maybe 9-7, no way make the playoffs. For us to go 11-5, win the AFC North, which is arguably the best division in football since three teams from it went to the playoffs, we won the North, we made the playoffs. I feel like we made steps this year. I think if you look at where we were the last two years to where we’ve come this year with a young team and with injuries on defense and things like that, I think you have to be even somewhere in your heart or your head, even though it stings for everybody, somewhere you kind of have to be a little bit pleased with the way the season went this year.†-- Ben.

February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend2550 viewsFrom Rick Cassano, Springfield News Sun:
Ben Roethlisberger came home Saturday and brought Terry Hoeppner with him.
Miami University introduced its 2013 Hall of Fame class during the men’s basketball game against Akron at Millett Hall, and Roethlisberger — a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers — said he was thrilled to enter the Hall with the late Hoeppner, who recruited and coached him at MU.
“I know he is here in spirit with us,†Roethlisberger said. “Going in with Coach Hep, it couldn’t get any better.â€
Hoeppner, who died of brain cancer in 2007, was represented by his wife Jane on Saturday. She said it was an emotional day that was capped with the induction ceremony.
“When I was given the announcement that Terry was going to be put into the Hall of Fame and Ben at the same time, it was perfect,†Hoeppner said. “It was as it should be.
“Terry was an example of someone who was so good at what he did. He was successful as a coach, but he was also successful at how he lived it out and how he chose to go about his business. He wanted to do it the right way.â€
