Training Camp - July 31, 20101413 viewsFrom Cassie Wellen, who attended training camp with her husband on July 31st:
Erin, I attended training camp on the 31st and thought I would share this story with fellow fans.
I am a member of the Steelers Fan Club and was on the field for the first practice wearing a Ben jersey. My husband sat behind the fencing with his Miami Redhawks jersey on and was interviewed by the Associated Press. His statements actually appeared on NFL.com.
Anyway, after practice Ben held his press conference and then went to the left side of the bleachers to sign autographs, we were on the other side of the complex. An older security guard and a younger female security guard noticed our jerseys and felt bad because he was not coming to where we were located. They took us through the crowds of people to the top of the campus to wait for Ben to get out of the cart.
Since he gave his shoes away (above) he did not come to where we were located, but the young female guard stayed with us and took us into the bookstore. She took both our jerseys and a hat into the locker room and came back out with them autographed. We watched her take them into the locker room and I saw Ben hand them back to her when the door opened.
I thought this was the best thing ever. Although we did not personally meet him, he was nice enough to sign the jerseys after he was already done for the day.
I just thought I would share this story with you and hopefully many people will realize he is making the appropriate steps to regain his fan base. I was never not a fan.
I am a disabled vet and the first time I saw Ben play I was deployed to Iraq. So that Christmas I received a "Ben" jersey for Christmas from home. This past year I wrote Ben and told him my story, and on Christmas Eve I received two of his special cards. That was the best present ever.
I just hope that one day I have the pleasure of meeting him and saying thank you for these wonderful experiences.
*Cassie, thank you so much for sharing your story!

November 20, 2020 - Lil' Fan Friday162 views“My family was in Cleveland last weekend visiting grandparents. We of course watched the Steelers game amidst a bunch of Browns fans. My 10-year old son went for a halftime bike ride with his uncle and had a bad accident. He was riding on a small dirt trick course. He hit a small jump and instead of landing, hiss flew over the handle bars. His face took the impact. We went to the ER. He got 5 stitches in his chin but he also knocked his bottom front teeth loose and chipped 2 teeth. We watched the end of the Steelers game and saw Big Ben throw the winning TD. Then he was ready to get his stitches. We decided to bring him home to get his teeth taken care of. Monday was a long day of dental and orthodontic work. He got braces on his bottom teeth to stabilize and gently move the damaged teeth. He chose black and gold bands!
Luke was tough the whole time. He had recently watched Big Ben’s movies about his surgery and recovery. Luke said ‘Oh man…it’s going to hurt to get these stitches out! Big Ben was even in pain!!’ I told him these stitches were way different!
He has been watching the Steelers his whole life. Mommy and Daddy went to Miami with Big Ben. We are thankful Big Ben is a Christ following role model for our boys.†— Mom Allison.
