Benjamin "Big Ben" Shank1108 views...said this was the best year of his life because he is 7-years old (you know, the #7) and he is also "Big Ben."
"Benjamin is holding his 2nd grade holiday project: a Christmas ornament-shaped paper designed with a favorite interest. Of course 'my' Big Ben chose the Steelers, showcasing #7 and Big Ben at the top! He also has all NFL teams and their records memorized for the 2012-2013 season and has his playoff predictions ready (Steelers are his #1 choice!). Not bad for a 7-year old!" -- Natalie Aikens

February 27, 2011 in Norman, OK1876 views7-year old Cooper and his big brother, 11-year old Brett had the opportunity to meet Ben in Norman, Oklahoma on Sunday, February 27th.
Ben was in town to attend sister Carlee's games as her Oklahoma Sooners finish out final home games of the season.
According to the boys' grandmother, Cheryl Kent, Cooper is a "huge" Ben fan as well as a big Steelers fan and has been since he was 3-years old. "He knows everything there is to know about Ben," said Cheryl. "He can even give you details about the Super Bowl when they beat Arizona, he was 5 at the time."
Cooper wears his Big Ben jersey and carries his football to every OU Women's Basketball game in hopes that he will see Ben! As Cheryl put it, on Sunday "luck was on our side, he was there!"
Cheryl snapped a photo of her grandsons with Ben after the game.
"Ben was so kind to autograph Cooper's football and meet the boys after the game! His small act of kindness made a little fan the happiest little boy in the world. I am so impressed at how nice Ben was and how he went out of his way for these two little boys."
*Thank you so much to Cheryl for sharing the photo and story!

Thanks Washington & @_BigBen7 for contributions to reestablishing City of Washington K9 Police Unit – Mayor Brenda Davis via Twitter @Mayor_Davis
“The city has its first police dog since the department disbanded its K9 unit in 1997″
From Mike Jones, Washington Observer-Reporter:
Ever since he was young, Matthew Karlowsky wanted to be a police officer, his father said. Then, when he was hired as a Washington patrolman eight years ago, he set his sights on one day becoming a police dog’s handler.
His vision came to fruition Thursday night when the veteran officer and the city’s new police dog, Golem, were formally introduced during a swearing-in ceremony at City Hall.
Golem, a 10-month-old German shepherd, could barely control his excitement for the ceremony, barking at times and searching for his ball in the cargo pocket of Karlowsky’s pants.
The dog was born in the Czech Republic and trained with Karlowsky for six weeks at Shallow Creek Kennels in Mercer County. Karlowsky gives Golem commands in Czech as they continue to train to hone the dog’s drug-detection and patrol skills.
Karlowsky served in the U.S. Army during the Iraq war and it was during that 14-month deployment that he wanted to work with dogs after watching military K9 handlers, his father, Rick, said.
“This boy has always wanted to be a police officer, and ever since then, he wanted to be a K9 handler,†Rick Karlowsky said.
The community raised about $47,000 the past nine months to restart the department’s K9 unit, including a $10,000 grant from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation. Mayor Brenda Davis said the community support and local business donations were instrumental in bringing back the unit, and city officials hope to expand it to two dogs by the end of the year.
“If it weren’t for the donations from the community, we wouldn’t be able to have this special swearing-in ceremony,†Davis said. “He’s ready to be a police officer.â€

July 27, 2012 - Jeffrey Metz891 views...Jeffrey calls his experience with Ben "A miracle in Pennsylvania"! Later that night, Jeffrey took his shoe into the Mt Pleasant Dairy Queen to show all the employees what Ben gave him. The manager even posted a photo of Jeffrey with Ben's shoe on Facebook . Many family, friends, and even strangers have heard this story and everyone has gotten both chills and tears in their eyes.
The shoe has already traveled to Richmond, VA for a visit, and the next stop is Disney World, because Jeffrey wants to share it with Mickey Mouse. Jeffrey says he just wants to make a difference in this world and for some one to hear him, and on Friday July 27, 2012, the one person Jeffrey journeyed 4,200 miles to see in person did hear him ... and that was Ben Roethlisberger.
Ben's kindness brought joy to Jeffrey's daily struggles and made him forget them for one day. Jeffrey says it was the best day of his life. Thank you for allowing me to share this story, this memory will never end!
