Update on K9 Logen, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, MD1231 viewsâ€œRecently, Montgomery County Sheriffâ€™s Office K9 Unit Supervisor Sgt. Joe Stanton and his partner, K9 Logen, along with Montgomery County Police K9 Sergeant Ari Elkin and his Partner K9 Leo, successfully completed K9 detector training. During this training, Logen learned to detect over 20 different combinations of explosive odors and Leo was trained to detect illegal drugs. Upon completion of this training, Logen and his brother, Leo officially became part of their respective agencyâ€™s K9 unit!

â€œLogen and another K9, Harley, are set to begin 16 weeks of K9 Patrol training beginning this month. K9 Harley, a 1-year-old German Shepherd was recently imported from Europe and selected to be Deputy Austinâ€™s first K9 partner. During these 16 weeks of K9 Patrol School, the K9 teams will be trained in the areas of Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Evidence Search, Suspect Search, and Criminal Apprehension.â€

Congratulations to Sgt. Stanton and Sgt. Elkin. Lets all welcome Logen, and Leo into the Sheriffâ€™s Office and the Police Department!

And thank you to Montgomery County Sheriff Darren Popkin, Sgt. Stanton, and especially Deputy Sheriff James Johnson for keeping us up-to-date on Logenâ€™s progress into the world of law enforcement.

Update on K9 Logen, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, MD1141 viewsBrothers in Paws: Leo and Logen share a â€œtough guysâ€ moment after a long day of training last year.

Remember Logen? He was featured on the website last September, after the Sheriffâ€™s Office sent an email to Ben thanking him for the grant they received to purchase four â€œK-9 Stormâ€ bullet proof vests, one of which would be used for their new puppy K-9, Logen.

"Your followers will recognize some of the earlier photos of Logen as he was when he started his training with Sgt. Stanton at just 8 weeks old. He certainly has grown since those early photos. But what most of you donâ€™t know is that Logen and Leo are blood brothers! Born in April of 2012, these two canines are now part of the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Community. In the photo of the two K-9s together when they were 8-week old puppies, Leo is on the left and Logen is on the right.â€ -- Deputy Sheriff James Johnson

â€œWe went to St. Vincent three daysâ€¦Friday for the night practice where Kathleen got lots of autographs; On Monday (8/5), I got Benâ€™s autograph on my sonâ€™s jersey. I told him it was my sonâ€™s favorite jersey and that he had passed away December 30th and had been featured on his site. He looked at me and said, â€˜I am sorry. (Pause) I am really very sorry!â€™. It was very nice for him to acknowledge it all in the pandemonium that was surrounding him at the time.

On Wednesday (8/7), we went back with one of the kidsâ€™ ski instructors and three of their ski buddies. Kathleen and two of the kids got Benâ€™s autograph. Kathleen was beaming. I was amazed at how gracious Ben wasâ€¦ It had been a long practice and both his right elbow and left knee were heavily iced and he moved gingerly. In spite of this, he signed hundreds of autographsâ€¦ It was a pretty impressive display.

2013 Steelers Training Camp580 viewsâ€œFor weeks, all I heard was, â€˜Daddy, how many days until training camp?â€™. Selfishly, I was asking myself the same thing, now 33 and never having attended camp myself. I talked to some training camp â€œveteransâ€ to get the scoop, but truthfully I had little idea what to expect. Armed with a few jerseys, a couple autograph footballs, and some sharpies, we made the 5-1/2 hour voyage to Latrobe. Jacoby was so eager to see all of the Steelers! He wanted to slap hands with all of them as they entered the field.

To cap off a great day of training camp, Jacoby got a bunch of signatures, one of which was from Ben! If you could have seen the look on Jacobyâ€™s face when Ben walked over to us! I am truly blessed to be able to have shared this experience with my son. I couldnâ€™t have asked for anything more. Thank you to the Steelers, and especially to #7 for making this such a memorable trip.â€ â€“ Nick Bonnett, Glen Allen, VA
