December 18, 2007 - The Hines Ward Show1670 viewsFrom the article in KDKA: There was a special guest at Tuesday's taping of the PNC Hines Ward Show.
But we aren't just talking about Ben Roethlisberger.
It was one of Big Ben's biggest fans: an 8 year old boy with a devastating illness who met his idol.
But Roethlisberger says the inspiration goes both ways.
To say it was an opportunity of a lifetime is an understatement for Joseph DeBacco, who was only given a 10 to 15 percent chance to live, when he found out he would be meeting his idol Ben.
"I want to have him sign my jersey and I feel awesome," said 8 year-old cancer patient Joseph DeBacco.
Joseph was all smiles anticipating his face-to-face meeting with Ben.
Ben says kids like Joseph are his inspiration as well.
"You sit there and think about how sore am I today and complain about practice," said Roethlisberger. "He's a hero to me."

“To have the support of the Steelers and the players and that it means that much to them to take time out of their day and do this, means the world to us. “It’s fantastic. They are right in the heat of their season," said Pat Joseph, the executive director of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of CF. "I can’t get over what they do not just for CF, but all the charities and how giving they are, I have so much respect for the players and the entire franchise,†said Pat Joseph, the executive director of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of CF.
