"After I got out of the Army I resided in El Paso TX. I had no money to go home to visit so i just went to school and lived on a very tight budget. My sister saw how following the team and being a part of the Nation washed away my worries for that time...it took me away from my personal problems for that time. This year we finally got to see each other and my sister began to follow closely as I bought her a Steelers jersey, surprisingly she is on top of roster moves, who's doing what, following Steelers on Facebook and other sites. So it makes me smile and I feel warm inside because even far apart, we know were cheering, yelling at the refs, ect..and were connected that day so far away. Christmas, 2011 - Kristin Burghard 1742 viewsKristin (with a little help from her husband) shows off a very special gift from Ben.

Kristin was an entrant in a contest on Brett Keisel's official site during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday called, "What are you thankful for?". Kristin is battling breast cancer and wanted to share her story and the fact that she was thankful for every day. She did not win the contest, but her entry made it's way here. Ben autographed one of his game-used pink & black Nike shoes worn during a game in October, which is the NFL's Breast Cancer Awareness month, and it was sent to Kristin.

From Kristin:

"Just wanted to let you know I received Ben's gift! I received it on Christmas Eve... It made our Christmas! I want Ben to know that this has been a very tough time for myself and for my family ... And this made us if just for a moment not to think about the breast cancer, and for that I am so very thankful! I know it's funny , but I love the fact that I know that Big Ben actually wore this!! I have my next chemo on Tuesday and it's a tough one.. And you know .. I'm taken Ben's cleat with me!! I need it to kick some cancer a**! Again, for you guys to take the time out of your busy schedule means so much! (Lost all my hair. Thought the pink wig would go with Ben's cleat !) "
