Update on K9 Logen, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, MD1232 views“Recently, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit Supervisor Sgt. Joe Stanton and his partner, K9 Logen, along with Montgomery County Police K9 Sergeant Ari Elkin and his Partner K9 Leo, successfully completed K9 detector training. During this training, Logen learned to detect over 20 different combinations of explosive odors and Leo was trained to detect illegal drugs. Upon completion of this training, Logen and his brother, Leo officially became part of their respective agency’s K9 unit!
“Logen and another K9, Harley, are set to begin 16 weeks of K9 Patrol training beginning this month. K9 Harley, a 1-year-old German Shepherd was recently imported from Europe and selected to be Deputy Austin’s first K9 partner. During these 16 weeks of K9 Patrol School, the K9 teams will be trained in the areas of Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Evidence Search, Suspect Search, and Criminal Apprehension.â€
Congratulations to Sgt. Stanton and Sgt. Elkin. Lets all welcome Logen, and Leo into the Sheriff’s Office and the Police Department!
And thank you to Montgomery County Sheriff Darren Popkin, Sgt. Stanton, and especially Deputy Sheriff James Johnson for keeping us up-to-date on Logen’s progress into the world of law enforcement.

Update on K9 Logen, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, MD1142 viewsBrothers in Paws: Leo and Logen share a “tough guys†moment after a long day of training last year.
Remember Logen? He was featured on the website last September, after the Sheriff’s Office sent an email to Ben thanking him for the grant they received to purchase four “K-9 Storm†bullet proof vests, one of which would be used for their new puppy K-9, Logen.
"Your followers will recognize some of the earlier photos of Logen as he was when he started his training with Sgt. Stanton at just 8 weeks old. He certainly has grown since those early photos. But what most of you don’t know is that Logen and Leo are blood brothers! Born in April of 2012, these two canines are now part of the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Community. In the photo of the two K-9s together when they were 8-week old puppies, Leo is on the left and Logen is on the right.†-- Deputy Sheriff James Johnson Sep 16, 2013

Fall, 2013 - Irons Mill Farmstead supports the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation1124 viewsBeginning September 21st, The Milliron Family not only welcomied in the season, but also supported the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at the same time!
Irons Mill Farmstead has a 10-acre corn maze, gigantic jumping pillow, tire mountain, hay maze, super slides, farm animals, pumpkins, and tons of fun for kids from 2 to 92.
Did we mention that the corn maze is not just any run of the mill corn maze! This is STEELERS COUNTRY so we’re talking about a 10-acre STEELERS CORN MAZE!
“This year we decided to make our corn maze design STEELERS! In doing so, we like to choose a relevant organization to work with to offer a fundraising opportunity. We chose the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation as a way to show our appreciation to those men and women in our police and fire depts. who risk their lives to serve and protect us. Our family is thankful for the incredible sacrifices they make each and every day. As a family farm, we know the important role animals play in all of our lives. It is so neat to see how the unique talents of animals can be utilized for such amazing things! We love the fact that we can support the men and women who rely on highly trained animals for support and protection.†– Stacy Milliron
The Farmstead offered discount coupons to fans on admission with portions of the proceeds benefiting Ben's foundation! Sep 16, 2013

September 1, 2013 - Perfect Day at PNC410 viewsMatt “Rabbi†Rabinowitz and his family took a break from the summer heat of Fort Lauderdale, Florida to visit Pittsburgh over the Labor Day weekend to take in the FSU vs Pitt game.
While they were visiting, they decided to take in a Pirates game, and look who they ran into!
“Nicest man I ever met,†said Matt. “He’s the man! Great guy and an even better QB!â€
What did he think of Pittsburgh? “I really enjoyed the city, great atmosphere!â€
He enjoyed the FSU vs Pitt game too, his Seminoles beat the Panthers 41-13 on Monday, September 2nd. You could say that Matt experienced a perfect sports weekend in the Da Burgh.

Pre-Season Game - August 24, 2013: Chiefs vs Steelers473 viewsYoung Tyler Hallsey is battling cancer. Recently, he had the opportunity to attend a Steelers pre-season game with his family, courtesy of former Steeler and current ESPN analyst Merril Hoge. It was a great night for Tyler, who also had the opportunity to meet and pose with Brett Keisel and Troy Polamalu, the man whose jersey he is wearing!
Tyler’s father, Chris, sent this email to share with other fans on his son’s experience:
When Tyler found out about his diagnosis he was scared and confused. We all were. My wife left the room to call her parents and give them the news. While she was out, Tyler and I talked about the road ahead and that it would be hard. We both made promises to each other, then I asked him what he thought we should do. He looked me in the eyes and said, “Whatever it takesâ€. I think Chuck Noll would be proud.
Since that day in February we have been team Whatever It Takes.
I think Tyler’s approach to fighting his brain tumor and Ben’s approach on the field are the same. You do whatever it takes. You do what others may not want to do or aren’t willing to do, in order to get the results you want. Sometimes that path is hard or perilous, but you do what has to be done. It’s inspiring to witness, especially when it comes from your son.
It would be impossible for me to properly express the amount of gratitude I have in my heart for Ben, and his willingness to take the time to meet Tyler. He loved every minute of it. Tyler is known for his constant smile, but this smile was even big for him! He was beyond happy.
A little while after we met Ben, we were in the tunnel waiting to see Troy Polamalu, when the team came out for final warm ups and Ben saw Tyler and said, “Hey! It’s my man Tyler!†He remembered his name and that made the day even more special. Tyler was in heaven. I know it was a brief moment for Ben, but those brief moments will bring a lifetime of joy to Tyler and my entire family.
I hope Ben knows how much that means to me as a father. This has been a terribly trying mountain to climb…it’s tough, but moments like these keep you going. They give you a much-needed second wind. As a father, I try to do everything in my power to ease Tyler’s burden, I would take it all if I could. As much as I try, moments like these are far beyond anything I could ever do. This was Ben pausing to help a little boy he didn’t even know, just for the sake of lifting him. No cameras, no press, just Ben and Tyler. While my gratitude is expressed with these two simple words, thank you, please know there is much more emotion and gratitude behind them. It was a black & gold dream come true!
Others will look at this picture and see a two time Super Bowl Champion and a 14-year-old boy bound to a wheelchair with an uncooperative body, but when I look at it, I see two giant men not afraid of a fight, and absolutely willing to do, “Whatever It Takes.â€
We are so proud to be a part of Steeler Natio. We always have been, but that conviction has grown even stronger. To Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Polamalu, Brett Keisel, Bruce Gradkoswki, Chris Hoke, Coach Mitchell, and of course, Merril Hoge who made this all happen, we thank you and we love you! Like we are part of Steeler Nation, you are now part of team “Whatever It Takesâ€! – Chris Hallsey
Steeler Nation is praying for you, Tyler!!
