Inside of "SI - 50 Years of Faces in the Crowd", 12/15/064015 viewsBen Roethlisberger, Quarterback, Pittsburgh Steelers
>The day Ben Roethlisberger appeared in FACES IN THE CROWD, Findlay High School athletic director Jerry Snodgrass decided to have some fun. He scanned the magazine page into his computer at school and changed key words to make the item read as if it were celebrating the star quarterback's achievements in dodgeball. When Roethlisberger read it, Snodgrass recalls, he laughed so hard "he just literally rolled on the floor."
The joke page was fun, but Roethlisberger remembers the real one as a benchmark in his young career. "It was my first time ever in a magazine, one I subscribed to since I was real little," he says. "So to be in there was just awesome." After four years at Miami (Ohio), Roethlisberger was taken in the first round by the Steelers, and became the starter the second game of the season and went 14-1, becoming the Rookie of the Year. In his second year, he led the Steelers to victory in Super Bowl XL.

Screen capture from the "making of" video.
"It was fun to be out there, to do the shoot. The James Dean look, hence, the leather jacket. I don't know if I'll get hit on too bad for this."

GQ Magazine, September 20073966 views"Young Guns", All Hail The Young QB's:
Ben Roethlisberger, Age 25.
Team: Pittsburgh Steelers
Team: Pittsburgh Steelers
At least this off-season, Ben Roethlisberger didn’t…well, you know. Last summer the Super Bowl XL champion was lucky to survive a scary motorcycle accident in downtown Pittsburgh and then followed it up with his most uneven NFL season to date, suddenly looking mortal as the Steelers failed to make the playoffs. Now the guy who won twenty-seven of the first thirty-one games he played is toiling for a new coach (Mike Tomlin, who replaces the square-jawed Bill Cowher), under a new system that’ll entrust him with the offense more than Cowher ever did, and he’s in peak physical condition. Then there’s that brand-new chip on his shoulder, which we have to admit to liking. “I like being the underdog,†Roethlisberger says. “I like having everyone against me.†It’s Big Ben’s challenge to the nonbelievers. We wouldn’t dare take him up on it.

Men's Health 2005 article3808 views"He's only 23 and already the undisputed Boy King of Pittsburgh. His number-7 Steelers jersey has become de rigueur for Pittsburghers of every stripe: male and female, infant and geriatric. The fans literally eat him up -- wolfing down "Roethlisburgers" as if they were the gridiron equivalent of communion wafers. All this comes thanks to a historic 15-game winning streak last season -- a string in which the 6'4", 241-pound behemoth seemingly could not lose as the Steelers' starting quarterback."

Men's Fitness - 25 Fittest Guys Issue, June-July 2006 Article3655 views"The Lord of the Ring"
Ben Roethlisberger
"...But the most interesting thing about this pigskin-flinging prodigy, who's know to bust a bushy beard and hoard six motorcycles in his garage, is not his eye-popping record. It's the way Roethlisberger plays the game. He competes with an unmistakable swagger that's reminiscent of John Elway and Dan Marino. Say's Roethlisberger, 'Growing up, I always wanted an arm like Marino or Elway. So if I could be like anybody, I'd want to be like those two guys.'"
