Roethlisberger (7) was in the line of sight for eager pass rushers, who were allowed to chase - but not hit - the Pittsburgh Quarterback.

2947 viewsRoethlisberger's arrival created no visible tension or competition in camp - a contrast, perhaps, to the rookie Eli Manning vs. veteran Kurt Warner duel on the New York Giants. Maddox realizes that the Steelers didn't bring in Roethlisberger to keep him benched for long-term, but he has been supportive of the rookie. "I think everybody's been looking foward to this season," Maddox said. "We have people who want to win. I think we're going to surprise people."

"Driving Home" by Jerome Bettis2938 viewsBettis on Ben Roethlishberger, P. 3
"When Ben got here, I took on the role of big brother. Warren Moon told him to look me up when he got in town, that I would help him out and guide him. When he got here, he asked me to come by and talk to him, so I did. We talked, and I gave him an understanding of what to expect as a first-rounder. I told him I was a former first-round pick, even though it was quite a few years ago, and I understood the expectations and everything that was being asked of him, things to be careful of as a young guy. The relationship developed from the standpoint of my being a big brother, telling him what to do, what not to do, to speak only when spoken to as a rookie, those kind of things. He is definitely the little brother. He is always after me trying to get the upper hand and get back at me. I am always getting on him, so whenever he has the opportunity to get on me, he does that."
