(FE) Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne Wyoming, told us back in January that MSgt Joel Harr is â€œthe biggest Pittsburgh Steelers fan I know (and I know lots!),â€ and was set to retire in February as an active duty member of the US Air Force after 20 years of service. Chief McDougall was searching for a suggestion â€œon how we can make Joelâ€™s retirement very special.â€

More from Chief McDougall:

â€œJoel grew up in a small town in West Virginia and is an avid fan of the Steelers. I was hoping to make his retirement on February 20th very special. Joel has a family; his wife Karen, sons Braden and Jack, and daughter Evelyn. Karen is an active Duty MSgt as well, and is as much of a fan of the Steelers as Joel is since she grew up in PA. My goal is simple, I want to make Joelâ€™s retirement after 20 years of dedicated and extraordinary service to our great country a day heâ€™ll long remember.â€

Presenting him with a game-worn, autographed Steelers Salute to Service 39THIRTY cap (with the camoflage bill) from Ben sounded like the perfect gift â€“ the players wore those caps during the NFLâ€™s Salute to Service month in November.

Chief McDougall agreedâ€¦and when the big day arrived, wanted to share the photos of MSgt Harrâ€™s retirement celebration with us.

Christian goes to 2nd grade at Center Township Elementary school in Butler, PA.

2013 was our third year going to training camp. We always try to make it to the night practice at Latrobe Stadium and have never even got close to getting Ben's autograph. But last summer, with the last open practice moved to St. Vincent, it gave us a better opportunity. We had just arrived at the field, and were sitting along the fence line when I saw Ben headed our way. I encouraged Christian to squeeze his way along the fence and hold his ground and just hold up the football as high as he could. There was a lot of pushing by the bigger kids, but Christian scored an autograph from his favorite player, #7. He clutched that ball all day, it now sits on our mantel above the fireplace.

I keep promising Christian we will make it to a football game at Heinz Field someday before he gets too much older, I'm not exactly getting any younger either. Hopefully, it'll be one of those lifelong memories between Grandfather and Grandson that we will never forget. -- Tom Melnik
